On the road again in the caravan for a 5 day trip to Mallacoota for Maree & Paul's "Shake Down Trip". Cloudy morning but not cold and looking forward to a few days away in the caravan. Only 6 weeks today until we hit the asphalt to Kakadu, Darwin, Kununurra, El Questro and lots of new and interesting places in the top end. Morning tea at Newmerella rest area where the SES have their staging area set up for the bush fires that are happening up around Orbost at the moment. Lots of 2 man tents pitched around the football ground and quite a few vehicles coming & going. Very thankful for the efforts of the volunteers, they do a magnificent job. Beautiful day now, sun shining, no wind and a balmy 21 degrees outside at the moment. Looking good. Stopped to stretch our legs at Cann River and boy o boy there were so many caravans out there. I couldn't believe it was so busy considering it isn't holiday season or school holidays. Arrived at Mallacoota Foreshore Caravan Park and set up on sites next to each other. A huge caravan park, I am really surprised at the amount of people and camps, we were lucky to get sites next to each other and there was no way we could get waterfront, they are booked out months in advance. Met up with Margaret & Colin from Monbulk for happy hour. What a small world we live in, met them when they were camped next to us at Etty Bay last year while traveling with Max & Carol.

Lovely morning and doing a little exploring today before heading to "Lucy's" for dinner with Margaret & Colin. (and Lois & Eddy friends of Marg & Colin) We went to Pebbly Beach, Shipwreck Creek, Quarry Beach and wandered along the beaches looking for shells. What a magnificent coastline, quite spectacular and great to go down the tracks to have a look around.
Monday 3rd March 2014
First item on the agenda today it to check out the Bootique with Maree. Then it is off for a drive to Eden for lunch and a look around. Had lunch at Eden Wharf at a cafe called The Wheelhouse which was very pleasant and a nice spot with water views. Then it was up to the lookout where we managed to spot a pod of 4 or 5 Dolphins swimming past in the water below. Too far away to get any pictures unfortunately but still lovely to see. On our way home we stopped at BoydTown and had a cooling ale at The Seahorse Inn. Beautiful spot on the beach looking back towards Eden. Then down to Lake Wonboyn where we went for a walk down to the waters edge and decided it was not going onto our list to visit again.
Tuesday 4th March 2014
Had to go to check out the other Bootique this morning while Barry & Paul tried their hand at a spot of fishing. Bargains galore to be had so very happy. Unfortunately can't say the same for Barry & Paul, they caught nothing.....Off exploring again today stopping at The SouWest Track, & Sandy Track where we were pleasantly surprised to see very clean areas with fire pits as well as wood supplied by the rangers. Would make terrific free camps except the roads are not really caravan friendly. Will keep them in mind for if we ever get a motorhome.... Happy Hour once again with Marg & Colin, Lois & Eddy before heading home tomorrow.
Wednesday 5th March 2014
Back home and counting down the days until we head of for our Kununurra Expedition now that Maree & Paul have their van all ready.
Really, really loved Mallacoota and we will definitely be going back....
