Saturday 31st May – Forsayth

9.30am and we are heading around to see Liz and have a look at her collection of Thunder Eggs & Agates.  Apparently her Father has the lease for Agate Creek and fossicking runs through her family.  First, where she lives (with Steve) is something to behold.

An old bus parked under a huge steel awning that is open on all sides and is chock a block full of “old memorabilia”.  One whole wall is covered in old bottles they have collected and there are 3 old stoves along what should be a wall but there is none. One of the stoves has been converted into an open fire with a chimney running up the outside of the roof.  There are also heaps & heaps of rusted things hanging from the roof supports. Branding Irons, rabbit traps, lanterns, old billys, you name it and it was there.  It looked like a Museum only messier.  Lovely couple to talk to and we spent an hour looking at all the rocks they had collected and polished.  Very interesting and they were both full of a lot of information. I bought a polished Agate with crystal in the centre from her as well as a piece of rock from the rock garden that she has lining the front of the shed.  It is full of all the pieces that are of no value and form a rock garden that looks a bit special with all the different colours showing through rocks that they have cut in half.  We have decided that it is too far to drive down to Agate Creek on the off chance that we might spot a Thunder Egg on the side of the road, even though I would love to find one, I may need to do a little research on the internet to find out exactly what I am looking for and I also require a “Fossicking License”.  A quiet afternoon reading and tomorrow we head out of here and on towards Wonga Beach where Maree, Paul, Max & Carol have already set up camp right beside the pool. I am looking forward to having phone as well as internet access again.  To use the phone I have to sit at a specific table out the front of the Café and wait for a signal to “sweep in”…..not good.
