Much better trip out of Forsayth on the dirt and corrugated
road back to Georgetown. Barry let all
the tyre pressures down to 35 and the trip was much smoother. Put 40 back into the tyres at Georgetown and
then on towards Wonga Beach for a few days where we will meet up with the rest
of the crew. We stopped at Mt. Surprise
to go through the undercar car wash, went through twice so I could get a
picture, also had a look in the Gem Shop and the small cemetery before
leaving. I think I am developing a love
affair with precious gems, I am fascinated by the different colors and textures
that are in common old rocks…… Lunch
stop late today at 2.00pm at Ravenshoe and now climbing up into the misty
clouds on our way across the top of The Atherton Tableland. 1105 meters is our top so far and I may have
to rummage around for a windcheater.
Temperature in Ravenshoe was 23 degrees but felt much cooler, that is
probably because it was closer to 30 degrees when we left Forsayth. We are now traveling through lush, green
rainforest with ferns on the side of the road, a far cry from the red dirt of
this morning. 1125, 1136 and now our top
height of 1140 metres above sea level and now dropping down a windy, foggy and
wet road through dense rainforest following the Millstream River for a while on
the way towards Atherton. This road
reminds me of traveling through The Dandenongs. Mt.Hypipamees National Park, I love the unusual names for National Parks I
should have noted a few others that I saw along the way.. Arrived at Pinnacles Beach Resort at 5.00pm
after a fairly long day and now camped next to the rest of the mob and looking
forward to a nice relaxing time swimming, walking and collecting shells. With a
bit of luck I will be able to collect some mail tomorrow…..THAT is a whole
other story..!!!!!!
