Sunday 8th May - Cairns (Crystal Cascades Caravan Park)

We left Wonga Beach on Friday 6th May and travelled down the beautiful Captain Cook Highway to Cairns.  This road is absolutely gorgeous, follows the coast for a long way and is quite spectacular, if not a bit windy. Now camped at Crystal Cascades Caravan Park for 5 nights and leaving here on Wednesday 11th May.  Paul has his car booked in for a service on Tuesday as Monday is Queens birthday holiday so everything will be closed.  Yesterday we went into Cairns and had lunch at Ganbaranba Noodle Collosseum which was terrific.  We had a meal there last year with Max & Carol and had to come back and show it off to Maree & Paul. After lunch we ended up at The Cairns Casino to put "a lazy 5" into the machines. Carol was the only winner so congrats to her.  On the way back to the car we stopped at Rustys Market and bought some nice fresh fruit before heading onto Yorkeys Knob Yacht Club for a drink. Very miserable here at the moment, rained all night last night and is still raining, although not that cold.  Today (Sunday) we are going for a drive to have a look at some camping stores and maybe lunch somewhere nice. Ended up having lunch at Cafe China, which was also where we had a meal with Max & Carol last year. Cairns was really busy today, there was an Ironman, Triathalon going on and the Esplanade was closed to traffic so the town was a little scarce as far as parking spots were concerned. Thoroughly enjoyed lunch and then went for a walk around Cairns dodging the rain and ended up at Gelocchio for a lovely ice cream.....yummy.
