Monday 21st April 2014 - Winton - Cloncurry EASTER MONDAY

Well a very interesting night last night.!!!  There was a woman not far from where we were camped that had a Karaoke machine and was trying to sing. I say “trying” because it sounded more like a cat being dragged backwards through the wringer on an old fashioned washing machine, than singing.  Butchered quite a few songs that I actually liked…..and I thought she was never going to stop and go to bed. Thankfully it was before midnight, although Maree didn’t seem to mind the NOISE….absolutely no accounting for taste.  On the road fuelled and anxious to make our next camp at 8.15am.  Not a cloud in the sky and lovely and warm once again, I hope I don’t get bored with all this beautiful weather….I don’t think so.  Morning tea stop early today as we called in to check out a free camp that Barry & I found when traveling home from Darwin with Joy & Wayne in 2011.  I named it The Mesa because it reminded me of the scenery in some old cowboy and indian films in the far west badlands of USA.  Now on to the Blue Heeler Pub at Kynuna for a refreshing ale.  As we approached Kynuna we came up upon the Beechworth Bakery Truck slowly moving up the highway.  We had quite a conversation with the 2 guys that are driving it around Australia, although this trip for them is only for 2 weeks and they have managed to travel on a few 4WD roads from Julia Creek and now heading down to Birdsville…a pretty gutsy effort I think. We certainly wont be tackling any in the caravan.  After the beer we hit the highway again up towards McKinlay where we pulled into the car park beside The Walkabout Pub which was where the movie Crocodile Dundee had a few scenes.  It is now 80kms south of Cloncurry and we have started passing lots of termite mounds on the sides of the highway.  Some people have a really vivid imagination as a lot of the mounds have been decorated in all sorts of clothing and paraphernalia. Couldn’t find a suitable camp spot for tonight so have pulled into the Cloncurry Caravan Park where there is a nice pool and some shady trees for our happy hour get together.  Currently have the air conditioner on as it reached at least 33 degrees today and have already been to the pool for a cool off….fantastic.
