Saturday 19th April 2014 - Augathella - Barcaldine - EASTER SATURDAY

Another glorious day for our journey up towards Blackall.  Early start and filled our tanks with water before we left.  Morning tea at a cute little spot at Tambo beside the Tambo Lake.  Not a very big lake, more like a puddle but it did have pelicans which was pretty special. Spotted my first eagle today approx. 10kms north of Tambo, he was in the middle of the road at road kill and in no hurry to leave his breakfast…… 26 degrees at 10.30am so it looks like it may be a pretty warm one today.  Lunch at Blackall and Maree, Barry & I went for a swim at the Aquatic Centre while Paul, Max & Carol had a walk around town.  Only 2 other people in the pool and $2 entry so great value and a lovely cooling swim even if it was 30 degrees in the pool and 35 degrees in the spa. I took a picture at the free camp at Blackall of an Eagle & nest sculpture made out of old rusted tools, wrenches, spanners and lots of other bits and bobs including rabbit traps – very effective.  It is now 2.00pm and 30 degrees.  Heading for a free camp at Barcaldine called Lloyd Jones weir.  We stayed there with Joy & Wayne on our way home from Darwin in 2011 and it was very crowded, fingers crossed it is better this time, but I doubt it…. Called in to have a look and as expected it was very crowded, far too many caravans for our liking so we have ended up 3 kms west of Barcaldine on the Capricorn Hwy.  Started an early happy hour as it was quite warm – well that’s my excuse and I am sticking to it………Tonight we sat and watched Ben Hur on the outside cinema (Maree & Paul's TV) very pleasant night and such a classic movie!!!!!!
