Magnificent morning and managed to fill the water tanks and
do our first load of washing before hitting the road at 8.30am. Need to travel 140kms
up to Cobar where we will refuel, 10.30am and it is already 20 degrees so the
day is looking very good. Lots of goats on the side of the road feeding in this
part of the country, they must be a little smarter than kangaroos as there are
none dead on the road, but the amount of them is quite staggering and look like
they are in near plague proportions. We have stopped to have lunch at Bourke near
the Old Bourke Wharf where the Crossley Engine is housed and beside the Darling
River under the big Red Gums. It is
currently 25 degrees so very pleasant.
It is such a shame to see all the shops here in Bourke all barred
up. It makes the place look very
unfriendly….and not safe, so sad. When
we reached Barringun on the border of NSW and QLD we stopped at a little
historic pub for a nice cold ale. The
population for Barringun is 3 and the lady that runs the pub is 89….Not a bad
effort. Managed to find a fantastic spot
to camp for the night about 28kms North of Barringun at a TSR (Traveling Stock Reserve) which was great except for the flies!!!. We were approx. 200 metres off the road and
nice and secluded. When the moon was
starting to come up, I thought it was a car coming over the hill shining it’s
lights on us. What a beautiful sight to
see the moon pop up over the hill. I
think it is nearly a full moon so utterly gorgeous and so bright.
