Great start to the day with a
scenic flight with Maree & Paul over Kakadu National Park, Twin Falls, Jim
Jim Falls, Part of Arnhem Land including Nourlangie Rock and the Ranger
Uranium Mine. It was an early start but
absolutely awesome, and well worth doing.
We have now left Kakadu and are heading back to Katherine for some
supplies before journeying on towards Kununurra. We are intending on staying at a free camp approx.
60kms west of Katherine tonight. Morning
tea stop at Gungural Campground 47kms Nth of Mary River Roadhouse, which was
where we stayed when we were here with Joy & Wayne in 2011. I have been
looking at the sign posts along the way and are fascinated by the different
Aboriginal names, Bukbukluk, Wirriwimmila, Garrnamarr just to name a few, bit
difficult to get your tongue around some of them…… Lunch stop at the Pine Creek
Rail Museum which wasn’t open but there were some nice shade trees to park the
vans under and enjoy our home made lunches.
Across the road from where we stopped there were two big trees full of 1000’s
of bats all hanging upside down, glad we didn’t stop under them for obvious
reasons!!!! I hate bats.
Stocked up with fuel and groceries at Katherine and have heard that
Kununurra is very expensive so hopefully won’t need to buy much there. Highway
1 from Katherine to Kununurra is a new road to us as neither Barry or I have travelled
it before so a new adventure ahead for both of us.
