Saturday 17th May - Exploring Kununurra

Saturday morning and it off to the local market for a look around and see if we can pick up any bargains.  No bargains but some very nice fresh fruit so have ended up with a Rockmellon (Cantelope) to try. Then it was down to the Kimberley Ornamental Stonecraft Gallery which is at a Mango Farm that a couple run.  The lady makes all the cakes and there is a very pleasant spot under some lovely large shady trees to enjoy the iced chocolate that we bought.  The Gallery has some awesome pieces that have been carved out of a stone called Zebra Stone, they look magnificent. There was a particularly nice fish there that the lady said was hers so hands off!!! I would guess it would be valued at over $6000.

After morning tea we headed sown to have a look at Ivanhoe CrossingIvanhoefishingThe crossing is a concrete causeway over the Ord River, north of Kununurra, originally part of the main road through to Wyndham. Since the start of the Ord irrigation project in the 1960's, the river now flows all year round, making the crossing impassable during the "Wet season" when the river level is higher.
It is a popular spot for barramundi fishing and picnicking. Swimming and standing on the crossing to fish is not recommended due to the presence of salt water crocodiles.

And now for a nice relaxing Saturday afternoon catching up on some reading while Barry goes fishing.....update to follow........
