Saturday 2nd May Douglas Daly Caravan Park – Darwin

8.05am and we are on the road to Darwin to stay for a week.  Looking forward to stopping and catching up on some retail therapy as well as the Mindil Market etc. Managed to find a C class road from Hayes Creek to Adelaide River which by passed the Stuart Highway.  Barry & I love getting onto these back roads, lovely scenery and lots of wildlife. Wallaroos everywhere and one little one propped in front of the car and made us come to a complete stop before he would move.  Also spotted heaps of Red Tailed Black Cockatoos, wasn’t worth taking any pictures as you can’t see the red tails until they actually take flight. Morning tea break was at a beautiful little area approx. 20kms south of the turn back onto the Stuart Highway at Adelaide River.  Could have easily camped there, lovely river and very picturesque.  Some showers today but nothing much and seems to have cooled down a little.  Stopped at Adelaide River to have a look at a very ordinary market, only about 5 stalls and nothing worth buying.  Hope our luck changes when we start checking out all the Markets in Darwin. Arrived at FreeSpirit Caravan Park and set up camp.  Quite a heavy shower of rain just before dinner and feeling that tonight is the coolest in quite a few days.
